My first attempt at a blog, go easy on me!

So, here I am, about to embark on a new thing! I didn't make any new year's resolutions, but I decided a while back that I wanted to write more. I loved writing as an introverted teen, with big dreams of being a famous novelist. I was inspired by the novels I devoured as a teen, and started writing my own. I still have it tucked away in my 'special stuff' box in the closet, but it sits unfinished. I also kept a journal back in those days, written with a pen in a pretty little book! Times sure have changed, my pen and book have morphed into a laptop with a wifi connection, 'blogging'. I must admit, I don't like the term 'blog', it makes me think of something one might cough up, but alas, I am doing it anyway. Maybe I'll come up with my own term for it...will have to give that some thought. I gave written a few notes over on Facebook, and plan on transferring that material over to here, too, so some of it may be old...but that's ok.

So anyway, this is going to hopefully be a regular thing for me, and I hope that my readers will enjoy it too. I can't promise riveting material, but hopefully I can bring out a few smiles, a laugh or two, hopefully jog some memories for those who have known me a long time, maybe even make some new friends out there. 

To borrow a line from one of my favourite movies "You've Got Mail"- I lead a small life. Valuable, but small. Therefore, some of what I say here may not mean much to any of you. I live in a small unexciting city, I don't have a high profile life by any means. I don't travel much, and when I do, I always go to the same place! (Don't worry, I already have stuff written about that, stay tuned!) I don't have a fancy home or job, but I love what I have. I guess what I am trying to say here is that I am just an average person with an average life, so the words you read here may just be average too, and I hope that's okay, because it sure is okay with me. I hope you like what you read anyway, and if not, don't feel bad, because I'll still like writing it anyway :)

I think for today, I will just give you all a brief summary of who I am, what I do, what I like, because some of  you may not know me well, and some do not know me at all! 

I'm Vanessa, but I prefer Ness. I'm 39, live in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. I have a boyfriend, Mike, for 5 years now. We have 3 black cats, Kittie, Peeper, and Parker. I work in a photo lab developing people's photos. I love it! I am trying to learn more about photography, it's pretty interesting. I make and sell jewelry as my main hobby. I started out with beads in my teen years, and for the last 2 years, I have learned chainmail techniques. If you aren't sure what that is, imagine ancient knights on a horse with that mesh material covering their heads and bodies. That material is chainmail, tiny metal rings linked together in various patterns. It's purpose in those days was to stop arrows from killing you. My purpose is to make pretty, sparkly decorations to hang from your wrists, necks, ears, or even your Christmas tree or your walls! I really enjoy it, and I rent space in a store called Craftworks, to sell my work. I don't sell enough to make a living...yet...  I love going to New York City, went twice in 2011 and once in 2012. I won't get too much into that yet, saving it for future posts! I love concerts, have seen hundreds of bands over the years, more on that later, too!
